Polarized vs non polarized sunglasses, which are good for you?

The debate about Polarized vs Non-polarized sunglasses has been on for a very long time with people on one side of the argument favoring one over the other. When we browse the internet, it is common to see the terms polarized and non polarized but what do the tents really mean? Let us review them to get a clearer understanding of their meaning.

What are polarized sunglasses?

Polarized sunglasses are designed to reduce the glare from the sun or extremely bright objects. You know that when our eyes focus on bright objects we tend to squint and the excessive light blurs our vision. The reflective power of light can damage vision including UV rays from the sun. But with polarized sunglasses on, the excess light is filtered out.

What are Non Polarized sunglasses?

Non polarized sunglasses also protect the eyes from excess light but the difference is that they do not have filters that reduce glares that bounce off bright surfaces.

The significant difference between polarized and nnon polarized sunglasses has to do with the filter that the former possesses that the latter lacks.

Polarized vs non polarized sunglasses

How do polarized sunglasses work?

Polarized sunglasses have a chemical film that covers the lens. This film (filter) is absent in non polarized sunglasses. Manufacturers install the film in one of two ways. The film is either embedded in the lens or applied to it. But what does the chemical film do?

It simply removes the glare by absorbing light coming from a horizontal direction while letting in light from a vertical direction. So as you can see, by blocking out light in one direction and allowing lighting from another, the light intensity that passes through the lens is reduced.

This feature is what makes polarized sunglasses a better option than the non polarized version because it offers the user better all-round protection.

What to consider before buying polarized sunglasses?

When shopping for polarized sunglasses, here are some of the things to consider.

1.UV protection

One of the first things you should prioritize is eye safety and you will need UV protection for that. Style and color may matter but not as much as protection from ultraviolet sun rays. When shopping for polarized sunglasses, check to see if the glasses have a description with 100% UV protection. Sunglasses with this protection will protect you from the harmful protection of the sun.

2.Effective light blockers

The light blocking feature of the sunglasses is another thing to take note of. Ensure that the glasses have a very dark lens because dale colored lenses block light much better than light colored ones. If you can see through the lens, then it is not dark enough. The ideal polarized lens will not allow you to see your eyes from a mirror.

3.Size

Size matters when shopping for polarized sunglasses as you want a version that will cover your eyes properly. If your eyes are perfectly covered, rays from the sun will not penetrate the sides of your eyes. So we advise going for bigger frames but not one that is too big for your face size. Make sure it fits well and does not fall off when you look down, then it is good enough. Furthermore, you can also refer to the size guide on the website you are buying from if you are shopping online to pick the right size. But if you are shopping in person, you can also try them on physically to be sure.

4.Lens quality

Lens quality is another thing to consider when shopping for polarized sunglasses. You want to ensure that the tint and less fit well. Very good sunglasses have the perfect tint and curves.

So which should you go for between polarized vs non polarized sunglasses?

Of the two, polarized sunglasses are much better than non polarized sunglasses because they offer more value in different light conditions. Although non polarized sunglasses reduce light entry, they don't block out sun glares as polarized sunglasses can. They cannot tackle glares bouncing off surfaces and objects which make them the worst kind of sunglasses you can wear for night driving or for fishing when the sun is shining intensely.

However, polarized sunglasses filter out ambient light and can do much more than non polarized sunglasses can. They work well for different light conditions be it for

· Fishing

· Night driving

· Vision clarity under the sun

With polarized sunglasses, you can clearly see colors, contrast and shapes much better. Furthermore, they are far more ideal for long wear because they are comfortable and counter the harsh effect of the sun.
